LSOF: Guarding Our Hearts

I always thought, ” Guard your heart.” meant keeping ourselves from the sexual lusts on the world, but God has shown me it is such more than that!

I opened the bible to 2 Chr. and just began reading an excerpt from the Women Of Faith, devotional bible. Which always captures apart of the word like a beautiful Kodak moment:-)

As I began reading, 2 Chr. 14:2-7. immediatly the word speaks about guarding this town in Isreal from possible trouble. I liked this, because trouble hadn’t happened again yet, but they were preparing, just in case.

Asa, King of Judah, at the time, removed and smashed every little known idol.

” He removed high places and incense alters in every town- and the kingdom was at peace.”

For 10 yrs, God gave them peace from war. Wow.

” Let us build up these towns and put walls around them; towers, gates, and bars.”

” The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; He has given us rest on everyside.”

I love this part in the side note excerpt:

” Walls of stone 20-30 ft. thick protected Isreal’s larger towns against invasion. Since the gate was the most vulnerable- towers were set up to keep watch.”

Towers set up to keep watch; They didn’t just build the walls and a gate to protect themselves; they relied on the tower to see from what was coming from afar. How cool is that?

The Holy Spirit is our Watchtower of our heart; discerns what goes in and what goes out.

Psalm 18:1-4

1 ” I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock,

my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock,
in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn [a]
of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD,

who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from
my enemies.
4 The cords of death

entangled me;
the torrents of destruction
overwhelmed me.”

Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart,
for it is the wellspring of life.”

1 Cor 16:13
13 “Be on your guard;
stand firm in the faith;
be men of courage;
be strong. 14
Do everything in love.

1 Tim 6:20
“Guard what has been entrusted to your care.
Turn away from godless chatter
and the opposing ideas of what
is falsely called knowledge,”

I like what a fellow siesta Jenny Hope said in her blog about how she was talking to her friend on the phone about her problem and missed the intimate moment of quiet time with God.

How can God guard our hearts, when we rely on human beings to do it for us?
I think of it this way, letting a human protect our hearts is like hiding it with scotch tape.

I don’t know about you, but I think I would rather have God deal with my problem then anyone; because how much more can another human accomplish next to God? Please, we don’t even have to answer that!

Keep your wall of your heart steady and strong, keep the gate of it sugared with the word, and let it be the Holy Spirit that is on guard against principalities in the spiritual realm.

I love you siestas!
