LSOF: Complexity of Authenticity

Let me ask you.

What does it mean to be real before God and others?

I want you to really think about this for a moment.

I think sometimes so much of who we are as Christians is molded up in some tight religious way of thinking; we really don’t know what it means to be real, to be authentic.

Therefore, that is the Complexity of Authenticity.

Everyone has had a “spiritual identity crisis” at least a few dozen times over the course of their life, and sadly some never really experience who they truly are in Christ.

I have fought with the ” Believing God” study, because I can only read as far as,

” I am who God says I am.”

I don’t get any further.

What about you? Do you find it hard to be genuinely who you were created to be?

Come on now, I know there are people out there who are obsessed with fashion craze, diets, hair dye, new cars, Tivo, etc.

Did you ever think who you would be without those things.

Maybe; who you were supposed to be.

Honestly, this devotional topic has been a struggle for me to write, because it was a question God threw at me to; ” Okay, while we are on the subject…” you know what I mean.

It is interesting to me how much more I get tested now that I am in ministry;

Think about it like this;

You are in an executive meeting, with like 20 people in the room, and you have the director up front.

He is going on about what things have to be done, deadlines met things like that, and then he brings his attention to you.

” This job is for you, but if you don’t do your research, and complete it to company standards, there will be a big problem.”

To ensure that he feels comfortable with you in taking on that project he pairs you up with another co-worker.

Then the next meeting, after a fabulous presentation, the Director pulls you aside and says,

” Great job on that, but I wanted to ask you if you wouldn’t mind taking on this piece.”

You just did a great presentation, and now you are being given another job that is not what you had in mind.

But you are also doing it on your own. Without help.

Now think of us.

Put it this way, God is just making sure we have faith enough to handle the next situation that comes our way, and so He gives us a few practice tests.

I mean you can’t very well get to the ending of a story, if you don’t have the beginning and middle? right?

To be authentic..

Does that mean you will agree with everyone. No. and don’t try just because you feel the need to pop your social status.

Its meaningless.

Does it mean that everyone will agree with what you do or how you say things? No.

You are going to step on people’s toes, just try to do it as graceful as possible.

and be kind about it.

What it does mean is that we need to be the same from when we wake up in the morning until we close our eyes at night.

I have been so convicted in this whole area, because like you I am in this world, like you there are days where I would rather run the other way instead of doing what God asks of me, in any area of life.

I don’t know if you know about Peter; first of all He was the one that denied Jesus 3 times before the cock crowed.

And Christ rose from the dead and asked Peter, ” Do you love me?” and Peter replied something like, ” Of course Lord, I like you a lot.” and the same conversation went on for a few minutes until Christ said, ” Do you really really love me?” and Peter was convicted and said, ” You know all Lord.”

Isn’t that us.

And Peter, even after seeing Christ rise from the dead; when he knew he was going to be crucified, he ran away, and it was Jesus that he met on the road that stopped him to ask where he was going.

Peter turned right back around and ran to be crucified, and not just crucified but upside down because he didn’t feel worthy enough of being crucified the same way Jesus was.

What a story.

Honestly friends, God knows us. He knows us SO well.

Has He ever stopped you on your way to do something to remind you who you were in the midst of you sin?

I know that has to convict a lot of us, but this whole thing is burning in my heart, because if you can’t be who God wants you to be, if you’d rather follow how the world works, you will never completely receive all the treasures God can give you.

And I am not talking about just in heaven.

You will miss out here.

Be Blessed my friends.

Go be you:)
